So did he use smokeless, and did not measure it?, or did he not get the ball seated all the way?
I got this in an email, so other than more graphic photos I do not have any more info.

Because it is practically impossible to blow a modern muzzleloader up with black powder, a little bit of being sloppy with the Pyrodex won't hurt much of anything. Guys get away with some pretty amazing screwups with those things.
That attitude does not translate well to one of the smokeless front-stuffers.
